Six months ago I decided I was going to move to Australia in October. I was going to save up and sign on for a one year working holiday visa. I studied abroad there my junior year of college and have been trying to find my way back.
A few months after I set my time frame, I changed roles in my company. I loosened my grip on my deadline because this new role was a springboard opportunity. I kept telling myself that Australia wasn’t going anywhere and when the time was right I’d still go.
As the leaves began to change, I couldn’t help but feel like I had cashed in on my dreams or so I wrote in an email to a friend.
I was perusing my company’s international job postings and I found one at our Sydney location. A friend of mine, the Fish, actually does this position here and I happened to have had lunch with her earlier that day. And for some reason we were talking about her job and she said, “You could totally do my job … it’s mostly about maintaining relationships.”
I had a meeting with my boss that afternoon and brought the job description to get his opinion. And wouldn’t you know, when he looked it up internally he knew the hiring manager. He sent my name over recommending me for the job and thus sparking the month long process of a 1:30 AM phone interview due to the time difference, 2 hours of online tests (logic, maths, verbal reasoning, and personality), a phone call between my boss and the hiring manager, an official offer, and an acceptance.
I’m moving to Sydney in January. HOLY SMOKES, ONE MORE TIME! I’m moving to Sydney in January. I have a full employee status job waiting for me. They are even paying my one way ticket. When I hung up the phone after they told me the offer, I was completely mouth-hanging-open-shocked. I looked around the empty back office to see if anyone else knew what had just happened.
(Side note - This song was playing on the radio as I drove to work the morning I found out they wanted to make me an offer. Truth!)
They picked January as a start date because it’s a slower period for them and will be a good time for my transition. It will also give me (and my family) time to mentally and emotionally prepare for my departure. This way I can spend the holidays with my family and friends and swap the Minnesota winter for Sydney summer.
The power of manifesting is a real thing. Destiny called me when she heard the news and happily screamed, “You’re a Wizard, Bre!!!”
Australia has been my dream, my personal legend, the place where half my heart still lives and you guys, I’m going back to claim it.
